Plant Based Beef Satay

Who does not know beef satay. Beef satay is a traditional Indonesian cuisine. Beef satay usually is made with chicken. Made by grilling using charcoal and served with either peanut sauce or sweet soy sauce. To make the dish complete, rice or ricecake is added as the main source of carbohydrate. How about changing the chicken into plant based? Lets check it out!

Ingredients

Satay

  • 250 grams of plant based beef
  • Skewers

Marinate

  • 6 pcs of red onion
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1/3 teaspoon of cilantro
  • 1/4 tablespoon of pepper
  • 1 cm of ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of tamarind water
  • 1 cm of galangal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoon of sweet soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of mushroom stock

Peanut sauce

  • 1 ounce of ground peanuts
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 pcs of red chili (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
  • Water

How To Cook

  1. Puree all of the marinate ingredients, cut the beef into thumb size chunks
  2. Marinate the beef for 2 hours up to overnight in the chiller
  3. To make the peanut sauce, puree and mix all the sauce ingredients and give water, The water added is according on how you want the sauce thick or runny.
  4. When the marinating time is over, set aside in room temperature before grilling in charcoal or pan until golden brown
  5. Serve the beef satay with peanut sauce, rice or ricecakes for authentic sate dining experience
